mh (-) sadge, got too excited
so I saw a 3D model that someone had made of Wagon's helmet (ToQGer) and someone else had 3d printed and it and I got really excited about it and inquired about buying the files to print myself. Unfortunately the files aren't for sale as it was a private commission and I'm pretty sad about it
felt close to being able to at least partly be wagon RL and nope not for me
I made a 3D printed Shakuhachi!
I play the Shakuhachi (not well) mostly cos its an extremely offline experience; just your breath and a carefully crafted piece of wood making pleasent sounds. So I quite like the idea of it as some part of the soundscape of a cyberpunk world for similar reasons.
But in an intensely industrial environment like that, the materials available, the process of printing, the density of the build, etc etc, would all contribute to altering the sound and feel, compared to traditional bamboo.
A Shakuhachi like this could be printed from cheap materials, even on very small low-end printers.
To play, it doesn't feel as "alive" as wood; It doesn't subtly flex and thrum under your fingers. But it picks up warmth from your body well and sounds much closer to a bone flute.
I might itterate on this design and see where it goes.
@avon_deer If anything we get better value for money nowadays. I just wish more of the money was going to the labour and not into the pockets of executives.
@andrew Got my digits crossed for you!

Have some more VRChat screenshots from last night :3
... Yes, my love for photography does in fact transfer to the virtual space as well as the digital, who'd have guessed! x3
@tryst yeah unfortuantely there's no point for another few months :(
it might be a good idea to make a video series on broken monitors/TVs/VCRs. I have a few of those, but it'd be helpful to have recordings of how exactly they screw up when they're damaged.
That's something that's becoming increasingly obscure, and given the rise of analog horror, it's apparently knowledge that we need more than ever
Technology doesn't have to be a black box you can't repair.
My dad's stereo amplifier comes with a detailed paper schematic, showing you in detail what every part is and how they fit together.
Sealed, unrepairable technology is a choice manufacturers have made.
We're ending up with new generations thinking that "spend not mend" is the only way, because they've never been exposed to anything else.
