Emails that could make a dream come true have been sent. Please wish me luck.

Are there any #MC68000 #mc68k gurus in the audience?
If a program running in usermode accesses the vectors via a data access instruction - what does the 68010 indicate on the function code pins?
Are vector reads escalated to being supervisor code/data reads, even though the code which triggered them is user-mode?

I'm trying to figure out why dereferencing a null pointer is 'fine' on a real #UnixPC but causes problems with the FreeBee emulator (if I disable vector access promotion).

@Dairishgoat It would be my longest deepest dream come true to own the whole original Dark Knight costume, cloak AND helmet, but even just the helmet would be absolutely incredible.

@Dairishgoat I am, yeah!! Well, ideally the whole costume but I’d settle for just the helmet if the cloak is no longer around.

When I first saw The Dark Knight in 1996, when I was 13, I dreamt about owning the whole costume but assumed I never would because it was in the BBC costume department. When I next started looking into things it had been so long since the show had aired that I assumed it was all gone.

Now it turns up after 30 years. I HAVE to try and find it!

I cannot explain how much euphoria this is giving me. I've just had a happy cry!!!

I love and want to be The Dark Knight more than anything <3333

How to write a message to someone you've never met to ask a purely professional question, but it's about something you're REALLY passionate about and you don't want to come across as a weirdo and get blocked instantly. >.>

It took me a long time to be okay with this because I’d internalised it as a Bad Thing for a long time but for the past decade I’ve been open about it, but some recent stuff has just made me really happy and passionate all over again!! 🖤🖤

@ret Oh 100%! I was just thinking that Hacker is probably gonna go down in history as the puppet who made the most people properly corpse.

@ret Pretty sure that “Make the human host corpse” is in all job descriptions of puppeteers on kids tv. ;)

Condolences.

Mike Karels of Berkeley Unix/BSDi died of a heart attack on his way home from BSDCon.

Karels was responsible for implementing TCP/IP on BSD, which was later ported to Linux. Since you're reading this, you are benefitting directly from his work.

RIP, Mike. We won't forget you.

okay so this is badass

one of my most cherished and irreplaceable retrocomputing devices is my peerless Roland SC-55.

while the MT-32 has been emulated quite well, the SC-55 always lagged behind in emulation - most attempts at it sounded pretty terrible, even using good soundfonts.

(and hauling around my SC-55 + midi & 3.5mm & usb cables just to play games in dosbox was painful)

in comes Nuked-SC55: it is a chip-level emulation project that just *nails* it.

it took about 30 seconds to build with cmake. i'm now going to try integrating it with dosbox, so i can finally play 90s DOS general midi games! (ultima viii pagan, here i come)

demo songs with the LCD screen (which is also accurately emulated!)

fwiw to compile (requires cmake):
mkdir build
cd build
cmake ..
make
