"Death of the Author" never originally meant "ignore the problematic aspects of the author" or "forget about the author."

It meant that the author's opinion of their own work was not authoritative and, in fact, that there could be no "definitive" interpretation. It was about how each individual's interpretation could be considered authoritative in its own right

It wasn't supposed to be about "we can ignore the author being terrible or trying to push a narrative." It works at a different level

The retrotech cycle:

1. Thing is cool
2. Thing gets mentioned on youtube
3. The Ebay People
4. Somebody makes replacement parts out of new parts to try and avoid The Ebay People
5. Whoops, the replacement parts were in a single batch of like 30
6. No worries, just replace the whole thing with a raspberry pi
7. Raspberry pis are on backorder until september 2024

"Furries are not a protected group" - they said as a way to shrug off the idea that someone, namely the mastodon.art curator, was targetting furries.

Here is a few facts to know about us furries:

Most of us are queer. This includes gender queer. Most people know zero to one trans people, but furries generally have more trans friends than they can count, it is that common. The fandom is a safehaven for queer people.

Most of us are neurodivergent. Being autistic is very prominient in the furry fandom. The fandom is a place where autistic find a place to unmask and be themselves. It is a place where we can be social without having to inteprete non-autistic intentions continiously.

I am not going to apologize for being protective of this space that litterarely saved my life. I would not have been here without it.

"furries are not a protected group" is a statement that reeks of queerphobica and abelism. The attempts of labeing furries as "white incel techbros" is a distraction from the queerphobia.

Scored this absolutely beautiful Minolta “MOVIE” VHS Camcorder for $5. Seems to work but need to try and record to a tape with it. Hoping to have it running off USB-C PD and working perfectly by Further Confusion in January.

I didn't get time to work much on my #renamon #fursuithead but was at least able to mock up some eyes and print them out to see what they'll look like.

Then I discovered that we're out of colour ink, lol.

I want to go with "follow-me-eyes" but at least the standard old-school eyes will work okay. Also I'm not aiming for cute but it's nice that it does look cute by default!
