to me the smartphone will never be a primary computing device. it is a clumsy little rock in your pocket that you can thumb out messages on, read the news and check the socials.
long live the proper computer, with their proper keyboards, proper clipboards, proper multitasking and proper programmability. the proper computer is where things are made. the pocket rock is for dicking around on at bus stops
Generative AI is a disaster for the climate - keep that in mind when you are tempted to use it.

Stream Alert!
Today!
9pm London (UK) time!
I fixed a bunch of the technical issues I had on the last stream, so hopefully it'll be a better time XD
We're going to be trying fighting game for the first time in over 20 years!
We'll be trying to answer questiones like these:
- Does our ancient knowledge have any use in today's games?
- Do these games really need us to be 20 years younger to be any good at them?
- What the hell is up with all these energy bars!?
- Are we just going to stomped into the ground by our Playstaion?
- and more!!!
The UX sins worthy of capital punishment in my opinion:
1) stealing focus for any reason other than to inform the user of a world ending emergency
2) and by extension, any kind of popup modal the user did not explictly ask for
3) moving the user's scroll position if they are ANYWHERE other than the tip of whatever feed they are perusing.
Essentially - anything that demands the user look at something they didn't explictly chose to. Notify users, of new info, don't demand they see it.
Current reporting from NYT and others (gift link: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/09/17/world/israel-hamas-war-news?unlocked_article_code=1.LU4.yQNN.lrxL0ef79K2O&smid=url-share) essentially confirms the speculation: Supply chain tampering with a new batch 3000 pagers from Taiwan ordered by Hezbollah involving adding 2oz of explosive material near the battery. Reports of 2800 injured, implying that essentially all of them went off, apparently nearly simultaneously, suggesting this was not targeting particular individuals (just anyone with a pager in the batch). At least nine deaths so far.
What they say: "read between the lines"
What they mean: "I'm demanding that you pick up an idea which I am refusing to put down"
It's hard to get more rude than saying that.
the state of israel is a terrorist monstrosity, horror
everything i read about the massacre in lebanon is even more horrifying then the last thing I read. it's like the start of a movie that i'd decry for being so stupid that they'd make the villain do something so pointlessly and horrifyingly evil. and instead it's something my country supports wholeheartedly. how am i supposed to support anything except the death of america with every fiber of my being huh
Installing Kernel-level Anti-Cheat is the equivalent of giving someone a key to your backdoor of your house and letting them take whatever they want without your permission.
Tim Sweeney and his ass backward takes on Linux are so stupid. I get the feeling he tried to install Linux one time, and fucked up so bad and swore it off forever as "too difficult" to use.
