⚠️ Call to action: Use your retro IBM-compatible PCs to help the MegaZeux DOS port! ⚠️

In the late 90s/early 00s, MegaZeux introduced a mode called "Super MegaZeux": using an undefined behaviour of enabling 256-color VGA mode in text mode, it allowed the use of 256 colors on some graphics chipsets.

We'd like to know which graphics chipsets these are. Legacy compatibility lists are very limited and of poor quality, so we're building a new one. Here's how you can help:

1. Get your retro PCs out. The only requirement is a VGA-compatible graphics chipset; any 8086+ laptops and desktops are supported otherwise.
2. Download and run SMZXTEST.EXE from https://asie.pl/files/smzxtest.zip
3. Take a photo of the screen! (If you want, take another photo after pressing A to see if an alternate undefined mode works better on your machine.)
4. Reply with the photos and a description of the machine (which graphics chipset/card it uses; for laptops, a model of the laptop is also welcome).
5. Once verified, I'll add it to the list at https://www.digitalmzx.com/wiki/Super_MegaZeux#Compatibility

Given the sheer amount of fascism, bigotry, and elitism in the Gentoo community, anyone wants to make a fork of Gentoo with explicit bans on that together with me?

I have a few technical issues I wanna solve too, but preferably we'd get enough beans together to make this something useful.

I can do generic Linux things (specifically kernel stuff, but also other things), but I don't have enough Gentoo-specific knowledge to do this alone. I do have a lot of experience with managing communities.

For now I'd probably soft fork, make our own tarballs + perhaps an overlay and soft fork of portage if necessary.

For those who haven't been watching:

A load of AI companies are actually just OpenAI resellers. OpenAI is among the biggest investors in these companies, but NVIDIA is also big. The way it works is something a bit like this:

1. NVIDIA invests $10M in some AI company.
2. That company takes $2M in revenue for effectively reselling OpenAI models at well below cost.
3. That company buys $12M of OpenAI credits (from their revenue plus investor money).
4. OpenAI reports $12M of revenue and uses this to justify raising $100M more investor money.
5. OpenAI buys $100M of GPUs from NVIDIA.
6. NVIDIA reports $100M of revenue and an asset worth at least $10M.

Everyone wins! Money from thin air!

There's a more fun variant that is, roughly:

1. Investment firm has a $100M stake in NVIDIA.
2. Investment firm borrows $50 against this stake and uses it to invest in a load of AI startups (maybe even OpenAI).
3. Demand for GPUs goes up!
4. NVIDIA valuation increases significantly and now the firm's NVIDIA portfolio is worth $1B
5. Company slowly sells 20% of their stake (slowly, so it doesn't spook the market, but it's a fairly small fraction of market cap, so that's fine).
6. Company writes off the $50M investment in startups.
7. Company now has $150M in cash and an NVIDIA stake valued at $800M that they can borrow against.

If anyone except Trump were in the White House, I'd expect the end result of a bunch of SEC investigations to result in a lot of folks going to prison.
