Due to my various changes of visa types, I actually took the ten year route to permanent residency. It sucked. Nobody should have to do this.
Part of what's shit about it is that visa categories change everytime some fuckwit in power changes their mind about how to scapegoat us. I was on multiple different kinds of student visa because they kept changing that. They eliminated the post-study visa that I got the day after I applied for it. They kept changing the spousal visa, so I had to do that multiple times. They charge a fortune every time. The prices are constantly rising. The rules are constantly changing. I always had to be ready to just fucking leave if I got rejected, which they will over extremely minor errors. It's much harder to rent a flat and roughly 15% more than market rent because fuck you, that's why. Changing jobs can be difficult. Some doctors are weird about referrals.
People shouldn't have to spend a decade being that precarious.

Actually, yes, it does a bit. Even if you don't explicitly agree with their abhorrent treatment of the dispossessed and those generally different to you, you are indolent and complicit in their hatred. At this rate it'll take decades before I get to my turn and I can't wait that long... when it was listed as five years I felt I could wait but now... I don't know anymore. I'm glad that I've at least been doing DIY but I can't deal with these negligent waiting times... I'm gonna have to go private... which isn't something I can easily afford.

Devastated atm. Not only am I feeling ugly and dysphoric today but I just found out that I am unlikely to get the actual healthcare support that I need from my local GIC anytime within the next few decades.
In early 2023, they said that they were seeing referrals from Jan 2019. As of the 5th June this year they have said that they are seeing referrals from JULY 2019.
It's taken them TWO AND A HALF HEARS to get through 6 months of referrals.
