just a psa to no one in particular, bc this keeps happening to me and it's really frustrating:

white people, please consider that when you correct the word usage or provide brusque corrections of someone from another culture, you're punching down.

pretend every other sentence that you said was interrupted by someone telling you that you're wrong. now. pretend this is continuous and unavoidable.

that's how it often is to be a minority in a white space. the fediverse is a white space.

@scarly If you want to be corrected less, just ask, no need to go "white people are unintentionally harassing minorities." People can't even tell your race unless you tell us, so "avoid correcting non-whites" is kinda hard. And why should you get a free pass to be wrong because you're of a minority, if we'd make that same correction regardless of who you were? I just don't see why this is a race thing.

@sunsetmoth hi sunset. thank you for popping in here to basically prove my point by correcting me on a post in which i talk about white people correcting me.

may i point out Things:

- you make the assumption that i needed correction in these instances, you assume the correction is justified

- you assume that i am "looking for a free pass" aka some kind of handout

- you assume that the world of the internet is color blind

your post is an example of white supremacy in action.

pls consider.

@scarly
in order:
- I specifically tried to word my post as "I don't understand why you're saying it like this" and not "You are saying this wrong." Thanks for not just dismissing me with "point proved" alone.
- You were not clear on whether this was justified, my mistake.
- See above.
- Maybe I'm just particularly oblivous but I can't tell people's race without them specifically stating it or posting a picture; I was going off my personal experience and assumed it was the norm.
