God shitposting in volume seems to really fuck up pleroma. I do not like this.

@Lumb out of curiosity, what happened with it? 🤔

@scarly
Basically the federated timeline is all me. I’m not seeing anyone else’s toots for long stretches of time. Also my notifications are backed up by a minute or two.
So I’ll get a notification in the browser a while before it actually shows up in my notifications tab.

@Lumb hmmm, ok that's really really strange

i will say that i noticed some federated timeline quirks as well when i tried pleroma, but i didn't end up having the patience to solve them or ask for help, tbh

@scarly
Yeah I feel you. Tbh I’m more scared to ask for help than anything. The few times I’ve asked for help with pleroma some asshole showed up to condescend to me. 🤷‍♀️

Might try misskey or hubzilla next but I don’t think pleroma is for me.
@Lumb @scarly @Lumb the federated timeline actually takes a while to populate. im pretty sure you're not seeing much because the instance hasnt found much to federate with yet. this is what happened with mine at least.
@desvox @scarly
This isn't the problem for me though. Look how many people I follow.

It's less like there's just nothing there, and more like it stops populating. I'll see thirty posts by me in a row, refresh the page, and then there's posts by other people in between suddenly.
@desvox @scarly
Yeah, it just kinda feels like pleroma is made for casual users, or rather, it's not finished enough for my use case at least. 🤷
@Lumb @scarly i feel bad mentioning this because its kind of obvious and you've probably already clicked this, but i got hung up at first how the timelines in pleroma have a "show new" button at the top when you want to show new posts.
@Lumb @scarly My federated timeline's working fine in pleroma, and I'm following you, so I got flooded with all those shitposts. So at least it didn't break mine. I think the federated timeline gets more diverse, when people on your instance (i.e. you) follow more people. I seem to see more content appear under "The Whole Known Network" when I follow more people, at least, so I guess that's how it works...?

I'd like to follow someone just to see posts from the people they follow, but not see their posts. Pleroma doesn't have mute yet, but maybe that'd be how you do it.

I wish Pleroma had #aspects. Those are amazing for temporarily filtering "spammy friends" out of "friends" or whatever.
@cy @scarly
"Well it works fine on my machine"

Jesus this is why I'm afraid to interact with the pleroma community.

I need you to do three things for me right now.

1. Go look at how many people I'm following.

2. Apologize for treating me like a moron.

3. Unfollow and never interact with me again.
@Lumb @scarly

1. You are following more people, so your instance's problem should clear up even quicker, since my federated timeline would be limited by my lack of following people. So the fact that I didn't have a problem is really strong evidence that you didn't damage the network itself, just your instance's glitching out for some reason.

2. The first thing you're supposed to test is if a bug is reproducible, so when I say it works fine on my machine I'm not telling you you're wrong at all. I'm giving you data to help you decide on what your next approach should be.

3. The world must seem like your enemy, if even my post insulted you, but I swear we're just people (with a few assholes among us), who occasionally try to help.
