re: Long post
@charlag @kaniini @lynnesbian @KitsuneAlicia@octodon.social assuming that moderators should have the technical skills to either rig their own mod tools or navigate ones that are obtuse is a barrier to accessibility, tbh. an excellent moderator may not necessarily be someone with a strong technical background.
it's beneficial to have first party support for a moderation interface that is reasonable and provides enough features to address common cases for report resolution, tbh.

@DragonessDella@octodon.social @Roxxie_Riot so here's a comeback to that. tankies are not on the left. their governments use oil and natural resources and hoard wealth without distribution. how is this socialist?
i wonder if a good comeback is to just point out that the countries they think you like are actually just capitalist hell holes because capitalism is actually not a governance, it's an economic theory.

@DragonessDella@octodon.social tbh, if she was actually a radical, then she would propose a tax on high frequency trading. wanna destroy capitalism? literally seize the means of "production". high frequency trades are used to effectively print money in the banking world. well, more specifically, they're a funnel from the lower and middle classes to the ultra rich.
@lynnesbian @slightlyflightyone@vulpine.club wow... there are security reasons why an id that simply counts up isn't as great as a uuid or something else like it...
@kaniini @lynnesbian @KitsuneAlicia@octodon.social that's a fair take, for myself, i see what you mean. with that said, i think that taking what you wrote here and making it something more readily attached to pleroma (a lot of people will not see this message) would go a long way towards curbing some of the - thoughts that exist towards pleroma.
my background isn't in technology, but i have found that people don't know things that they can't find. show them?
@slightlyflightyone@vulpine.club @lynnesbian tbh, i avoid early micro optimizations because ive found that they lead to slower development cycles. optimizations that are done early are often the wrong optimizations. this leads to needing to rework multiple times instead of waiting for the completion of the tapestry and them making adjustments
basically, there's rarely enough good data to optimize for performance early, and just waiting can save time and improve performance
@lynnesbian well, im neurodiverse, have a chronic pain condition, a small host of other ailments and issues, and currently have post concussion syndrome. when taking a specific action, i sometimes have to weigh the effort required against the cost in terms of side effects. i can't do everything i wanna do in a day, not even close. so spoons becomes a unit of measurement.
the origin of the story is someone using spoons to equate to energy when asked why she can't do stuff.
@KitsuneAlicia@octodon.social @lynnesbian on the flip side, if everyone believes a certain platform is a heaven for Bad People, then it can happen despite good intentions due to self selection. for instance, if every small instance migrated from mastodon to pleroma today, then you'd see a very different perception of pleroma and the developers working on the project would likely be a bit more diverse.
if we don't use it because reasons, then the ecosystem is starved.
@KitsuneAlicia@octodon.social @lynnesbian actually, the best way to stop hostile users is to make it uncomfortable for them to ask questions. terms of service, community culture, etc - they should all be maintained in a way that makes it clear that abuse is neither tolerated or supported
as a user, ive seen that pleroma doesn't really seem to do this. they're software devs that think a passive attitude towards their hostile users is enough. it isn't, tbh. that's a failing.
@KitsuneAlicia@octodon.social @lynnesbian tbh for a sock puppet, mastodon is hardly difficult to spin up and get working. if i can do it in five minutes (not counting compile times) despite being a sketchy admin then im pretty sure that anyone can get it up and running in a similar amount of time. and then there's an actual webhost for it soooo
@lynnesbian @KitsuneAlicia@octodon.social crap, that's harsh. well, i was gonna use pleroma but ended up doing nothing while i work on my own implementation. with that said, ive seen a few folks use it that aren't any of the above. with that said, a lot of fediverse activity does come from some pretty out there instances so i mean.. but also, some fairly good ideas for combating said instances actually come from pleroma devs. soooo. it's complicated? nuance, i suppose.
@lynnesbian @KitsuneAlicia@octodon.social wait, it's that pleroma is better than the others and everyone that doesn't use it is a a what?? am i readin right?
@feathers that is exactly how Chel types. she hits the keyboard like she's in a boxing match. occasionally, keys go flying off. this is not an exaggeration. i sometimes have to duck at my desk..
as a random side note, while i was busy building stuff all day, i was still subjected to chels nonstop keyboard banging and occasional whimpers of terror, intermixed with various other sounds of torment as she "enjoyed" resident evil 2.
at this rate, if an actual zombie crisis occurs, ill be ready to act due to being thoroughly desensitized to the sounds of horror.
