are there any more MUDs active or did they die?
@InspectorCaracal bluh. i kinda want one with just. people and text. no numbers, no stats.
@InspectorCaracal rpgs don't like me and i don't like rpgs, i just want to interact with people.
@squirrel I could rant about the way MUDs and MMOs put the focus on numbers and stats instead of ROLE PLAYING for like..... hours....
@squirrel The system I want to make has stats etc. but they'd be pretty much invisible and increased by using the relevant skill mechanic and wouldn't require you start with combat to earn exp to do anything interesting because that's so bullshit
@InspectorCaracal i want a system that is a non-system and the whole story is just written by the players and not by a game?
@squirrel player driven worlds 😍
so like second life, kind of?
@InspectorCaracal i guess but
with more people not exclusively interested in sex
and not abandoned
second life is cool but i don't know anyone there and have nothing to do
@squirrel I think that's what the MUX types tended to be more like... 🤔
@InspectorCaracal i'm trying furrymuck right now and it just feels like a sort of impenetrable community of people who all already know each other and you don't
you know, just like any other furry chatroom
@squirrel There are lots of active MUDs; I used to have a list of big ones, not sure what happened to it. https://www.achaea.com is the biggest one I know of.
@noelle every mud seems to be high fantasy... can't i just have a mud where i can live in a town as a squirrel girl and not deal with rpg elements
@squirrel You might want to look into less-structured variants like MUX/MUSH/MUCK. I hang out on a MUSH but it's basically just a chat room.
@squirrel I think there's a few. I know Threshold is still active, I've been considering joining for like five years.
