@modernmodron I once had a pet leech and it was really big (about as long as my forearm, but I was like 7 so I guess not that big actually). We kept it in a big bucket-sized glass jar with swamp plants in it and it swam really fucking fast around it sometimes. We fed it liver bits. One time it escaped and was gone for an entire day and then reappeared crawling across my bedroom floor that night
@modernmodron My parents are both biologists so at that time in my life our "pets" were usually like we went to a nearby swamp and filled a bucket with water and whatever was in the water was our pet for a week or so, and then we'd go dump it back in later. But the leech stayed for a month or two because it was fun
