@noelle something that fascinates me is that in most languages I’ve look r at,the name for a cat is either the sound they make or they’re similar to “cat”

What’s weird to me: where did the outlier word “cat” come from?

@noelle oh I guess “neko” is one of the outliers though. Of all the words Japanese originally borrowed from Chinese, why wasn’t “mao” one of them?
