@ajroach42 That's how it starts
I mostly buy new because vintage is a minefield
If you're after a mechanical watch then Seiko is a good start, the Seiko SNK809 is pretty much everyone's first automatic, they're great value and you can find them for £70-80
Or if you want a dive watch there's the SKX007 which is about 200 quid, fully rated for diving, and in my opinion looks pretty damn nice
@ajroach42 Oh yeah, the SNK809 has a clear caseback so you can see the movement from the back, that'll get you hooked if nothing else will seeing all those little gears moving around
When I was younger, I worked for an antique store.
As a result, for several years, I carried a pocket watch. Nothing fancy, but it had a pretty movement, and the back of the case would open to reveal a window that you could watch it through.
Right now, I'm honestly looking at digital watches from the 70s. Before that, I was looking at kids watches from the 50s (Tom Corbett Space Cadet and Space Patrol.)
I'll end up looking at actual watches eventually.
Oh, and I found this: https://www.dicktracy.watch/shop/standard-issue-2016 and if they actually manage to get one with a BT radio in it made for next year like they are planning, I'll wear it every day of my life.
@ajroach42 I'd probably put that more in the wrist-mounted gadget category than a watch but that's cool as hell
@troubleMoney I mean, the one in the picture is just a straight watch, albeit one designed to look like a wrist radio.
Allegedly, they're working on an actual wrist radio for next year.
@ajroach42 digital watches are still good, casio actually still makes a bunch of their more retro designs, might be worth looking at those
@troubleMoney
See, I'm fairly certain that I wouldn't even check a mechanical watch if I wore one, so weather it works or not would be kind of unimportant.
OTOH...
