so like.... we have a new housemate moving in, which has resulted in me thinking about this, and... like...

...

i'm not really sure if there exactly is a difference between, like, "oh, yeah, we have house Monster" and "we have communal Monster?"

...

but they feel... different? and, like, i feel super comfortable saying the former, and kinda weird about the latter?

...

and i don't really know why. 🤷

@gdkar I'd take "house monster" as a monster that lives in the house with you and "communal monster" as a monster that you all share

@troubleMoney yeah!

...

only also energy drinks!

@gdkar ...

Why the hell did my mind immediately go to "oh, must have a monster living with them, makes sense" instead of "oh, the energy drink"?

There was even the "food" cw!

@troubleMoney i.... yeah, uh, actually was a little unsure about using that example for kinda that reason.

uh.

but also i just picked up a 10 rack of monster for the kitchen, so, like, it was on my [ mind | counter ]. 🤷

@gdkar well, now with the correct context:

house monster implies it comes with the house, communal monster implies that everyone chips in a bit

@troubleMoney *nod nod*

yeah. that's it.

like... yeah, in practice here there's some amorphous level of assumption that, like, if you're part of the household you should contribute to the house existing-and-being-a-thing, but that's..... separate and pretty hand-wavy.

...

cool. thanks!
