I'm going to tour the house in a few minutes.

This is our final walkthrough before closing.

We're still not certain when closing will be, but we are doing everything we can to push for it to be tomorrow at 1pm.

If that goes well, then Wednesday or Thursday I'm doing some minor maintenance on my cars, and selling them/trading them in as down payment on a truck.

I have to decide what truck I want.

The rest of this thread will be me talking about trucks, until someone makes me get off the computer and go get dressed.

Trucks currently under consideration:

Nisan Frontier
Chevy Colorado
Toyota Tacoma

I'm mostly looking in the $18-$23k price point.

That means I'm looking at 2012 - 2018 trucks.

I want 4 seats, in a single cab (jump seats, rather than a quad cab, so I have more bed space.

I want a bed cover (camper or cap, doesn't matter.) I want 4wd, if I can get it, and a tow hitch.

This is not a daily driver, rather it is a 1-2x/week vehichle, so that we can haul garbage, and do deliveries and pick stuff up.

It also needs to be able to rescue us if our dirt road is mostly ice. It's a survival vehicle.

It's also the way we'll get the majority of our stuff from DC to GA. That is, I'm hoping not to have to rent a uhaul.

Thoughts?

(Okay, I'm dressed.)

The Tacoma appears to mostly be available as a quad cab, 2wd. That basically removes it from consideration, unless I can find an older model.

Depending on the model, the Tacoma can also have some trouble turning in narrow spaces. (This is more of a problem of the standard 2wd, the prerunner and the 4x4 don't tend to have that issue.)

The frontier is mostly available as a 2wd, and has a lower towing capacity than the Tacoma or the Colorado.

It's consistently cheaper, which I think comes down to name recognition.

It's allegedly very reliable.

Better MPG, lower tow capacity, smaller overall size.

If this was for a daily driver, I'd go for the frontier in a heartbeat.

But I think 2wd, lower tow capacity, and a smaller bed mostly rules it out.

@bea What I really want is a 2 door Tacoma or Ranger from circa 2009 or 2010.

That's when they stopped making them actually small and move to midsized.

But it's hard to find vehicles that age anymore. The people that have them aren't getting rid of them because they can't replace them.

The frontier is the closest to a smol truck you can still buy, and I want one, but it doesn't cover enough of my needs.
