It's a really really stupid reason, certainly. But
1.) These are made specifically for getting them into prisons.
2.) The way to get them in is to literally eat them.
Honestly, the proper solution, I think, is a Stingray-type setup, where unauthorized connections can be cut off or intercepted. Make the phones useless (or worse) within prison grounds.
@troubleMoney To be fair the specific phones he's going after advertise themselves for smuggling purposes.
Ironic that they're putting even more people in jail for smuggling stuff into jails. A smaller prison population would be easier to control. Like they'd get if they got rid of laws against victimless behavior.
