Can anyone explain why Jeff Bezos decided to build a clock that's designed to last 10,000 years?
If society collapses nobody's going to care what time it is and if it doesn't then nobody'll need to walk up a mountain to tell the time

It's about thinking ahead. The thinking goes that at some points in history, people planned ahead more, but nowadays things are more ephemeral and arent built to last. Nothing built today is going to last like the pyramids or Angkor Wat, it's going to be bulldozed in 10 or 20 years. It contibutes to a disconnect, an unmooring in time.
Sometimes you want to build something that will last. That won't be wiped from the face of the earth shortly after they die.
@Tel they could have come up with something a bit more interesting than an oversized atmos clock on the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere though
Maybe have somewhere that plays music like Organ²/ASLSP that people can come and enjoy for a while knowing that it'll still be playing in generations

It does play music, a unique melody every day for 10 000 years. And being in the middle of nowhere was on purpose. Less likely to be nuked in a war or bulldozed for development.
