so not that i've felt at home in my home church for a good long while (what with the pastor i knew and respected retiring), but the escalation of twittery has gone above and beyond here and i think i may be about to stroke out and/or rush in somewhere with a whip and pull a bit of this kinda thing

so, they just put out that they're going to do a superbowl party
now it's not my cuppa but i'm not inherently against this. people are allowed to like sportsball even if i personally don't. they're doing it on a big projector, setting up snacks and extra seats in the basketball court/gym area. so it might not be my thing, but i'm cool with all that bit. it sounds like it could be a good thing for some casual fellowship.

and now it's... halftime entertainment
the new pastor, when my dad politely asked for clarification, got very snippy and said "this is reaching people who won't come on sunday mornings!"
okay, if they won't come on sunday mornings... do they even know what they're doing? do they know what they're signing up for? do they know what any of this means???
again: most important rite in our brand of christendom.

and THEN for the pastor to take it like a personal insult when the reaction is "....is this a joke?", and stridently say that there is no way any of this could ever go wrong or be seen as wrong *because he said so*....
.................................yeah
yeah.
my head hurts

and this is not people who have been scheduled for this time, it's people who are just going to be taken as they come in the middle of a party.
if they don't know what they're signing up for, or what it means... i don't think the gesture has any weight at all at that point.
it's worse than meaningless. it's a parody of what it should be. it's an insult
