there's a certain about of sympathy i have for notch tbh. not much but it's nonzero
he made more money than god and it went to his head hard, he burned every bridge he ever had and he sits on the pile of cash he thought would have made him happy by now
with basically no one left who likes him at all to talk to he's found solace in the alt-right, which is basically their recruitment strategy
none of this is an excuse, he's a shitty person who brought it all on himself and can rot in hell, but it's kind of a sad story

@monorail it's kind of aristotelian tbh
very little catharsis for the audience, but in the end it's a man brought low by his own hamartia, his own fatal flaw
i don't think having some sympathy for that is a bad thing, especially because when we see a tragedy we see the pattern that gets repeated (bringing other people, far more sympathetic, into suffering) - and that we can go "there but for fortune go i" about, too, tbh
