@monorail it's kind of aristotelian tbh
very little catharsis for the audience, but in the end it's a man brought low by his own hamartia, his own fatal flaw
i don't think having some sympathy for that is a bad thing, especially because when we see a tragedy we see the pattern that gets repeated (bringing other people, far more sympathetic, into suffering) - and that we can go "there but for fortune go i" about, too, tbh
