"i shouldn't care about trans soldiers affected by trump's recent ruling because they all need to die anyway uwu" is a bad take of the level that it only befits a 14 year old who thinks praxis is wearing the Che Guevara t-shirt he got at target and whose greatest struggle in life to date has been ordering extra guac at chipotle but not getting a sufficiently extra amount of guac

to take that stance means willful ignorance about how many populations are presented with the military being their only way out (especially when out means going to college, and even getting adequate healthcare)
rural, poor, minority populations are pressured and preyed upon immensely by the military. if you're not exceptional enough to get a completely full ride scholarship, the military is often the only other way you get to college

maybe it makes me a "tankie" to say it but i'm not going to condemn a trans person who is here and hurting and needs help because they made a desperate choice as a teenager to join up as their way out when their other choices were largely grim variations of "go out back with pa's shotgun and hope somebody finds my corpse before it seeps into the groundwater and they have to throw out some of the corn harvest"

a lot of the condemnation has been very WELL I WOULD SIMPLY NOT EVER BE IN A POSITION TO BE THAT DESPERATE and when you're ideologically the same to yzma saying "well they should have thought of that before they became PEASANTS!!!!!", i don't think that is exactly something you should be patting your own back and feeling smug about as a good enlightened viewpoint

to be honest quite a lot of that particular scuttlebutt seems to break down to "i am for trans rights, but only when i agree with what the trans people are doing and only when i think they are ideologically pure"

@wigglytuffitout thank you for saying this tbh, military / GI bill is the ONLY way people made it out of my extremely rural hometown and it gets me kinda steamed when ppl who have never lived that kind of life make sweeping assumptions and throw tons of cool poor people in with the fascists

on top of this, i think that coldheartedness means that people with that take never actually listen to the people who are hurting
because the venn diagram of people who are in the military and people who think the military is a flawless machine they are super proud to be a part of... is not just a single circle
the overlap is much smaller than you might think
