the problem with wlw and mlm is that mlm also means multilevel marketing and it is not always clear in context which one is meant
someone once replied to my request for ideas about vampire culture/parentage terms with a suggestion to look into mlm terms and I looked at it for a whole minute before tentatively deciding that they meant gay romance, but then I discovered via their link that they meant multi-level marketing and i was like the fuck is this
also multi-level marketing is basically just a commissions-based pyramid scheme rather than an investment-themed one, i can't believe anyone actually falls for it
@InspectorCaracal seeing how multi-level marketing is aggressively pitched these days is really depressing, because they have almost entirely found their niche in preying on vulnerable populations who are unable to hold down a full-time job and using social pressure like a cult to keep people in (as, after all, the model encourages and requires you to sell your social connections for any hope of profit)
...but yeah the acronyms get confusing lol
