something bugs me about seeing a lot of plants in individual pots.

they are meant to all be in the same earth and connect up, aren't they?

@KitRedgrave admittedly, some plants are kept in pots because it's more about protecting one plant from the others

mint in a pot is fine

mint just planted in your garden means you're going to live in mint hell for probably the next decade. mint cuttings on the lawn in the dead of night is a good way to start major beef with the neighbor you hate the most, etc.

similarly, pots are useful for a lot of accessibility reasons - a container garden is more manageable in many respects.

@KitRedgrave there's a hella neat type of pot/container garden i've seen that has a zip-away portion, so you can easily get to your potatoes, and that's cool as hell honestly. it feels like a magic trick, except the magic is potatoes, and i'm very on board with that concept
