long, excited about the future
@monorail (by pre-programming i mean lessons like...
1. the computer will do exactly what you tell it to do, no more, no less
2. how to build mental models of imagining the computer (or redstone, whatever) following the orders you write, and what that means
3. attention to detail, because the computer won't know you meant to put a comma there. a redstone line in minecraft won't either. you have to train yourself to look beyond your own pattern-completion.)
long, excited about the future
@monorail i'm not explaining myself very well lol, but i think that i got my "pre-programming class" doing hexxing for petz. and as it becomes harder on multiple fronts to pop the hood of a program and tinker around in it like *i* learned, i'm really glad to see the same learning experience there baked into the games themselves.
i feel like "pre-programming" is a really important set of principles to pick up these days in general, it's rather multidisciplinary.
long, excited about the future
@monorail honestly big agree
when my niblings are a little more grown, tbh, i expect the like... first upgrade for the switch to time perfectly with this... but i'm really excited to do nintendo labo stuff with them too
and even if every kid playing with redstone doesn't go on to learn circuitboard design, there's some really important lessons that you learn that i consider the like... y'know how there's pre-algebra or pre-calc? that

@Lpnational y'all i have found the absolute height of unintentional political humor on mastodon

ffxiv lukewarm take
@Galuade@snouts.online tbh if i were in a position to do so, i'd love to interview people who have worked on both types of mmorpgs, especially as writers - i'd love confirmation on if they really do feel a lot more on stable ground (and thus can make better work) when a subscription is giving a much more steady inflow of money to depend on. (also not having to twist the story around to justify exploitative mechanics, too.)
ffxiv lukewarm take
@Galuade@snouts.online you're absolutely right and should say it
i mean, stuff on mogstation still grates. but it's cosmetic or what i consider fair shortcuts (the level boosts) so i can grit my teeth and get over it.
but it means they can actually let the game be a good game. the level of difference now is really obvious in mmorpgs about which are made to be good games and which are made to be money traps. and seeing one go from one to the other is heartbreaking (RIP the secret world).
re: braces, pain -
@aCuteLittleBox@fedi.lynnesbian.space if y'all are worried about overdose, honestly, chuck the tylenol in the bin - it's probably the most dangerous over the counter drug anyone can buy, and can cause liver damage. ibuprophen is a lot safer than acetomenaphen in that regard - you can take a lot more of it before you get to danger level, whereas the gap between "dose that works" and "dose that is dangerous" is really small for tylenol.
in the meantime, cold drinks might help!

@eightbitsamurai@elekk.xyz IT'S SUCH A GOOD SET. and i am so so so happy it dyes SO well, and i LOVE the black AND white tattoos SO MUCH.
also i'm convinced that they must have done some polygonal smoothing or something because my character's tits have never looked better and it's just fantastic
re: braces, pain -
@aCuteLittleBox@fedi.lynnesbian.space tylenol and ibuprophen are safe to take together, and tylenol doesn't do too much for swelling, so maybe try taking some advil too :) caffeine also helps them work better so having it with a cup of coffee might be worth a shot!
i remember the real trick was to get it on board before the adjustment, but it was a real pain in the... well, a real pain in the teeth, lol. i hope y'all get to feeling better soon!
braces, pain -
@aCuteLittleBox@fedi.lynnesbian.space as someone just passing by: ah fuck, i remember my time in braces with absolute loathing. that definitely happens.
top tip that you've likely already heard but just in case you haven't: taking an over the counter NSAID like ibuprophen before going in for an adjustment is a godsend. all the pain is swelling basically and since there's not much space it means bad pain time. strapping an ice pack to your face can also help, if you don't mind looking a bit silly.
spammer: join the MRA don't marry movement!!!
me: buddy, my dude, my pal, i can guaran-fucking-tee that you will never be faced with such troubles in your life. nobody is going to want to marry your whole mess lol. you are like the last man in the world who has taken a solemn vow of celibacy, or someone pledging to never eat dodo meat. you ain't gotta do that. you're ahead of the game.
/listen i know they'll never see but you gotta laugh at this shit right
