another major social justice pet peeve:

"oh, look at poor fallen america! so racist! so full of race problems! i'm so glad nothing of the sort happens over here in enlightened europe!!"

I MAY HAVE SOME BAD NEWS FOR YOU ABOUT WHERE AMERICA GOT THOSE RACIST IDEAS, MY DUDE

basically every time i see yankee nonsense about how only the southern us is racist/bad

i just sort of want to hoist a boombox on my shoulders just let some classic wordsmiths take it away by repeating the chorus over and over: youtube.com/watch?v=gWju37TZfo

most of the performative faux social justice that wrankles me can be summarized as -

"yankees saying their shit don't stink".

guess what y'all, it's not just the south that is racist!

and the assumption that the south is full of idiots who deserve misfortune is, in fact, also pretty fucking racist!

also i am greatly missing one emoji from discord, and that is :onomichi:.

yes i have a yakuza server in there for the emojis.

but also this orange's expression of quiet suffering is an INTENSELY relateable mood, good for MANY occasions (not just disappointing children, as shown)

i feel like you can definitely assemble your own joke out of the fact that i went on a rant about how sincerity is worthwhile even though it's not as likely to get you boosts and internet fame,

and that is now going semi-viral with people faving and boosting it. just pip pip pwip like mastodon popcorn over here

i was sitting here wishing sadly that i had the makings of cheese toast, but no bread

then i remembered

GARLIC NAAN IN THE FREEZER

:yell: :yell: :yell: 🧀 🍞 :yell: :yell: :yell: ❗ ❗ ❗

@BestGirlGrace @CCTop god yeah, the original lyrics go OFF lol.

i think it was a solid piece of media that really had the message of "war sucks", very emphatically, and in a way that probably hadn't rocked the american consciousness in a good while - you can draw parallels between post-ww1 rise of modernism, but by the time M*A*S*H aired, a lot of that had been spackled over with patriotism.

still amusing that the show lasted longer than the actual korean war tho lol

@BestGirlGrace yeah, it is a bit of a whiplash at times

though i think a lot of these things improve in the later seasons - for one thing that's when they let maj. houlihan be an actual person instead of just a flat piece of cardboard with two balloons taped to it, lol.

it might make it less wince-worthy coming at it from an angle of "compared to the contemporaries here, it's seriously ahead of the game on this angle"

@bamfic which honestly i'm not totally against - i mean my coping strategies are ripped directly from dr. hawkeye pierce off M*A*S*H half the damn time - but i get worried when seeing that become the entire mode of communication

i feel like that's such an easy way to end up floating in space, unmoored and untethered, and so detatched even to yourself, and that's a scary place to be. trying to work on mental health with absolutely no footing or grounding is so hard.

so i worry lol

@Elizabeth at least you get a minion out of it!!! \o/

also don't be too nervous, i promise that ffxiv weddings are not super serious business! :> they're just good fun to go take some adorable screenies. there's not even really time to get stuck in to rp, too, since it's scheduled and all. ^0^

...it is a very nice lip balm though.

though it does sting a little sometimes. i think that might be the macadamia nut oil? i should probably avoid macadamia nuts if this is the taste (but uh. macadamia nuts tastey.........)

geekchiccosmetics makes a nice buttery lip balm tho.

"hey wiggly, didn't you just go on a long extended aside about rebutting cringe culture?"

well yes, but, even i have standards. and a tube of Exotic Butters chapstick next to me.

Show thread

o internet, what is an appropriate amount of shame to have about owning a chapstick that is flavored to be a FNAF joke?

oh. it does help if i actually bring my plate full of meds with me to sit down, if i want to take them.

food question, urgent, please boost

@vantablack way way too long if there's any meat or sour cream. if it's just veggies - JUST veggies - you might be able to get away with it IF you're feeling lucky (but that's a very big if)

honestly so many ebooks bot posts give me pause because they ALMOST make sense and it makes my brain go "no no hold up let's reread that five times"

before i notice the ebooks bot part of the username

and sincerity is scary. it means letting people in, and that can be terrifying.

but, to sound like a goddamn cheezy middle schooler's poem, letting people in is how you can connect with them as *you*. you have to open the door to let them see *you* first, before you can connect with them.

and those connections are indeed sincerely worth it.

ok, there's great aunt wiggly's talk for the night i guess, i'm gonna go scrub this face mask off

there's a bigger debate here, of course, about if online communities can ever reflect the gestalt beings that are humans in reality, or if at any time humans can reflect every aspect of themselves at all times,

but you don't have to compress yourself down so tightly, i think.

if there are places that want you to compress yourself down that small, maybe push back a little.

maybe decide to take up a bit more space in being sincere.

Show thread

will it make you less 'quoteable' or 'memeable'? maybe. will it make something that might get you less boosts and favourites? maybe.

but if your online interaction is complete insincerity, you're not looking at interacting with people as much as you are looking at trying to market a product. and *being* that product is going to be exhausting. you are more than a product, and you deserve to sincerely connect with other human beings.
