what is it when you're subtooting but not subtooting anyone on here but rather an entire part of the ffxiv playerbase
i'm not saying we should stereotype players but i am just gonna say that people playing "lalafell, with an active and exciting sex life" have quite some difficulty exploring that particular topic in a way that i do not consider immediately suspect
Me, A Grown-Ass Woman of Thirty Years, but in Weeping City instead of Syrcus Tower This Time: heeehehehehehee ozma's gonna suck us up at the glorihole which sounds like glory hole hheeheheh
in which a wigglytuff wearies of political headlines
because fucking hell, it's like Kemp - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/georgia-officials-accused-of-destroying-evidence-in-touchscreen-voting-machine-lawsuit/ - has decided the correct person to model his political ambitions on is like
Skeletor.
but in an episode where Snarf accidentally trips Skeletor when he's coming down the stairs, and so the Thundercats don't even need to lift a finger. yet somehow Skeletor is winning anyway. despite having just tripped down the stairs because of Snarf.
fucking hell.
first rabanastre run from hell, and then trial roulette with a fellow who, when i explained that (like most of the group) i was new and to have a little patience, decided to cuss everyone out
because calling everyone 'fucking dumbasses' totally motivates them to do mechanics better
and yet i was still the one rezzing *them* on our third (and successful) attempt
🤔
squinting out at the distant fires on the fediverse, while politeness is not something that should be demanded, i will take a moment to say that if you want someone to do a request on your behalf, especially if that someone is a stranger who does not know you and your stuff, you will generally get a better response if you use politeness to show you understand they are also a human being.
i know it's very petty, but one of the pet peeves i have in ffxiv that makes my blood pressure skyrocket
is when i'm in alliance roulette and i'm second or third on aggro from pumping out dps while rezzing people left and right
and then i die to some attack, or get down to low health
and i can look up and see both of the healers spamming stone gormlessly instead of healing/rezzing me
it uh
well.
Well!
digging through youtube to find the version of lavender blue i remember, shoving aside the many many covers from the 2015 live action remake
the one i remembered is from uhhhhhh
1949.
so that's my being a crotchety old lady for today i suppose https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpxakMAN6po

so i've been trying to actually write down and go to the carrd.co profiles i see pop up in ffxiv roleplayer's user lookups as they rush by
and one of them has autoplaying music on their profile page, which seems to be a thing
me, the sensible person: no don't do that. it's startling and awful and really not user friendly. we cannot do this thing when making our own profile carrds
the darkest impulses of my soul: HHHNGH WHAT IF MUSIC GO DOOT DOOT DOOT THO
and for what? you hurt the artist, you are in the moral wrong, you have helped kill fandom, and for what?
a little bit more attention for yourself? boosts and clout that you can feel is for you instead of the actual creators? momentary smugness that people are paying attention to you?
pretty bullshit, honestly.
tldr, source your fucking fanart or else i will come into your house at three in the morning and rip out all your toenails. thank you for your time.
and moral, legal, ethical issues aside - there's a lot more to say on all of those - it's also a shitheel thing to do to your audience.
now somebody who goes "woah! i really like that piece!", because you haven't credited it, is unable to go find more of what interests them. you gave them a dead end. you gave them frustration.
instead of happily participating in fandom culture, you've now killed that pathway for them. you've robbed them of that chance to participate.
that kills fandoms.
fanart is less clear-cut than other types of art theft because of these legal issues which means that profit is nebulous or best. for a fanartist, compensation comes in terms of gaining a wider audience, gaining recognition, etc. and this can directly become ways they keep themselves alive - people who know of them when they open commissions, people who slip them money on ko-fi.
if you're woke enough to see capitalism as exploitative, don't then exploit artists making your free entertainment.
