i'm sure that at a certain point you hit critical mass and instead of a personal expression, people switch to viewing you as an entertainer first and foremost. i've seen it happen to a friend i'm trying to drag on here (you've probably seen at least one of their family lore posts stolen on buzzfeed lol), and they're making that work for them. i just get too much stage fright for that and it was becoming uncomfortable. so i suppose the tumblrpocalypse came at an oddly opportune time for me.
although i know there's rarely such a thing as privacy on the internet, i am very much appreciating the mastodon approach of like... respecting the idea of privacy. one of the pet peeves that really kept sticking in my craw on tumblr was people passing around a heartfelt vent about personal circumstance like it was a funny meme. i was there to talk with friends, not to simply be consumed, you know?
