i want something that works with thunderbird since i'd rather not have to use a webmail client
@DarkWitchClaire to mirror what the rest of the thread says, the main downside of protonmail is the webclient only usage
now it is possible to use thunderbird or other local clients *if* you pay for the basic protonmail tier (through the "protonmail bridge"), but the free tier doesn't have that option
and also the bridge is closed source and the linux version is only a beta ( https://protonmail.com/bridge/install )
but it can be done
kinda
@DarkWitchClaire also i too would like to know other answers, cause protonmail *works* but yeah the webclient / mobile client only usage is meh
@DarkWitchClaire You can give posteo.de a try, have been happy there for a while. I hear mailbox.org is good, too - but I haven't used them.
Both of them cost the same at 1€/month
@DarkWitchClaire protonmail does have a bridge application available to paid accounts, currently windows and mac with linux in beta
other than that I don't know, hushmail might be something to look at maybe? don't have any experience of them though
