@NovaSquirrel That said... I don't actually play a whole lot of 2D platformers, my background is mainly 3D arena shooters around the turn of the millennium. So I think I'll take inspiration heavily from that for movement mechanics, and learn what others have done for 2D platformers (to see what works)
@Saxxon My own platformer game is mostly a mix of stuff from games I like, and I play a whole lot of 2D platformers so I have a lot of experience to draw from there. Perfectly fine strategy.
I'd be completely lost if I had to design a 3D platformer though, considering I've barely played any of those.
@NovaSquirrel That's so hard to answer.. I'm probably going to borrow mechanics from games I like and combine them to form a new experience. I really enjoy double jump, dash, and grapple mechanics. The world of 2D platforming these days has established a really good template.
