on xmas eve, the first year Scarly and I lived together, we left the apartment unlocked on accident
at 2AM I woke up to a loud banging sound, followed by some noises in our bathroom. I figured scarly might've gotten up and gone in, so I didn't didn't think about it until I noticed that she was next to me, still asleep. this worried me, especially when the shower started running
I shook her awake with no small amount of confusion anad concern

I was all like 'THERE'S SOMEONE IN OUR APARTMENT', and she was all like 'wtf are you talking about? i'm trying to sleep'
eventually however I managed to get her awake enough that she noticed the sounds coming from the shower, which helped to focus her mind and prompt her to start dialing the police
meanwhile, in my infinite wisdom I'd grabbed a knife and a tazer and was yelling at the person inside, because… uh…dont fuck with a sleeping bun?

I was ignored, of course, which in hindsight makes sense because the guy was taking a shower. seriously.
we ended up holed up in our bedroom waiting for the cops, which took a while because it turned out that they weren't able to get into our building easily.
when they got to our place they were a little confused and asked scarly and I why the hell we didn't leave, which we didn't really have a good answer to - thinking when sleepy is hard

so they banged on the bathroom door, this time shouting "KENT POLICE, OPEN UP", which actually prompted a response. It was, uh
'DUDE I'M TAKING A SHOWER'
'THIS ISNT YOUR APARTMENT'
'yeah it is'
at this point one of the officers looked to me and was like 'are you sure he doesnt live here???' to which I was just like wtf of course not
at this point they were getting a little irritated so they just forced the bathroom door lock and went on in

I didn't look inside. I didn't really want to see the guy, and didn't want him to see me, but i heard some of what they were saying
'wtf are you doing here tom'
'i live here man!'
'no you dont! get dressed! (…) those arent your socks put them down!'
tom it turned out was pretty well known to the cops that arrived. eventually they got him dressed and out the door, at which point we were cautioned that we'd probably want to wash our towels

at this point they came into scarly and I's bedroom where we'd been basically hiding and asked us if we wanted to press charges against the guy, which we declined because... eh
the only particularly horrible thing to come as a result of this was the two hours spent cleaning our bathroom which was incredibly filthy at the end, and the lost sleep.
we never forgot to lock our door at any point afterward
this was all back in 2015. yay memories?

and yeah, taser, pepper spray, and a couple small knives. we don't actually like, carry them around with us nonstop, but there are times and places that benefit from having things like that o.o
