@Quinntessential are you a tradesperson or something?
@LottieVixen Yeah, essentially. I install home theater, networking, and automation equipment, and occasionally do low-voltage wiring stuff. And look cute in a uniform. :3
@Quinntessential oh gosh!! I used to do the same, but in a data centre....(cable installation that is) ahhhhhhh it was fun but my co-workers weren't so nice :/
@LottieVixen I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm glad you got out of it! My coworkers are okay for the most part, at least to my face.
tradepeeps, misogyny
@Quinntessential yeah my co-workers weren't bad to me just very....objectifying...I couldn't tlak to them, got fired for my work apparently not being up to scratch at the end of my probation period (yet I had no review before that) it was bs
I don't want to be a tradie again
tradepeeps, misogyny
@LottieVixen Oh yeah, I get that a lot. It's really fun being told by management that you're undervalued but then passed over for promotions in favor of less-experienced folks, or having coworkers undo your work and do it *their* way.
I enjoy the work a lot more than I enjoy the job.
tradepeeps, misogyny
@Quinntessential yeah... I wasn't out then so my coworkers found it weird i was defending women :/
tradepeeps, misogyny
@LottieVixen I've been out (as trans, but I haven't bothered talking about being nonbinary) the whole time, but even after a couple years I still get called by male pronouns on occasion, which is both mind-blowing and terribly frustrating.
tradepeeps, misogyny
@Quinntessential ah yeah....but you know what those bro types are like with "girls who defend rights of others"...eugh it was terrible
tradepeeps, misogyny
@LottieVixen Ick. I actually don't deal with a lot of that around here. We've got a lot of Good Ol' Country Boys, though, which is its own hell sometimes.
tradepeeps, misogyny, porn mention
@Quinntessential ahh...yeah I was in the middle of Sydney....all of my coworkers had porn mags in their trucks :/
tradepeeps, misogyny, porn mention, religious demographics
@Quinntessential @LottieVixen in Australia, the Bible Belt stuff corresponds with Upper Class neighbourhoods, rather than lower class
so there's a lot of sexual stuff in the Lower Classes, and the Upper Classes are "pure"
tradepeeps, misogyny, porn mention, religious demographics
@lizardsquid @LottieVixen It's pretty much all classes here, but the upper-class folks are definitely more flashy about it.
It also happens that most of my clients fall into that category, and early in my transition that made for some *very* pleasant interactions.
