In the SpongeBob episode "Patty Hype", Mr. Krabs give SpongeBob the key to the Krusty Krab, instead of suing SpongeBob to the ground for clearly utilizing the Krabby Patty secret formula for his own personal gain (albeit with a unique gimmick)
That, as well as the fact that SpongeBob mentions burning, shredding, and burying money. Likely in an attempt to evade taxes.
I'm pretty sure at this point, the Krusty krab's biggest threat isn't Plankton, it's SpongeBob. He's too dumb to live
