Whenever I replay fnv, I always find myself trending towards the same decisions

I think this is partly because the game actually starts out super linear? Like, technically you can go three different ways from good springs, but going one way leads to poison bugs of doom and another way goes to deathclaws of devastation...
So you're inevitably funneled through primm, then to the outpost, then to nipton, then to novac.

@lizardsquid open world is an illusion!! the revelation for me was seeing a fnv speedrun that basically started by getting through the deathclaw field alive. it felt so weird to see, like - it feels wrong to be at the casinos this early. it's too early @.@

@riv a lot of open world games start with a linear section and then open up later, but usually it's very obvious - like they'll have a tutorial area which you start in and then afterwards they'll plonk you into the open world.
But fnv is pretending otherwise!
