trans stuff, voice, weirdness
I used to be a bass singer, and now my voice apparently sounds fem and cute?
I didn't do any actual voice training, I just stopped speaking in a monotone voice...

@DialMforMara but it's more than that - I can't even sing bass notes anymore, at all! my vocal range has shifted up 6 entire semitones

@lizardsquid I don't know what observations are rude to make here, but as someone who will never experience such a dramatic vocal range shift in either direction, thinking about it is fascinating.

@DialMforMara I don't think there are any rude observations, it's just strange that I've just kinda naturally shifted? My choir organiser originally thought I was on the route to becoming a basso profundo, but was very surprised 6 years ago, when I had to shift out of the bass section into the baritone section

@lizardsquid Hmm. What I wanted to ask, but wasn't sure I could do it politely, was if it was transition-related. But it sounds like it's not, which is even more interesting.

@DialMforMara I think some of it is? I'm really not sure ::/
trans stuff, voice, weirdness, bullying
@DialMforMara actually I think part of it is that when I first went into high school, I was bullied for being girly a lot, so I changed a lot of things - I silenced my laugh, wore my clothes in a certain way, and forced my voice down

@lizardsquid and stopping doing those things would definitely have an effect, yeah

@lizardsquid Yes, varied intonation indexes femme. I expect it has to do with the "men don't express emotions" stereotype.
