computers question, advice wanted

hey so we're looking in to getting a cheap desktop computer, for personal use (web-browsing + coding)

we were considering using a raspberry pi, but perhaps there are better options?

our budget is EXTREMELY limited

@lizardsquid I haven't really done any research on this question, but I'm wondering, have you also considered a Chromebook or Chromebox?

@jamey neither of us can stand google's software, so I don't think that's a good option

@lizardsquid I mean I figured you'd immediately put it into developer mode, but sure, that's fair. Those are just some of the least expensive computers I know of that run Linux and are meant to be standard desktop/laptop systems.

@jamey there are similarly priced things to chromeboxes that come without google's baggage, just the hardware

@lizardsquid I was also going to mention that I really like Olimex as a company since they make their hardware designs open source, so for example olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/ is pretty cool.
