I know that getting bogged down in minutiae is death to actually accomplishing anything is death to actually getting things done, but I still like detain-oriented worldbuilding. One thing I came up with was this culture that had previously been colonists on hostile worlds, so they were conditioned to be adverse to generating trash, which meant they were adverse to casual consumerism.
