then why is java the language that gives me the most trouble in trying to run programs in it

@mallaidh at a previous workplace, my predecessors chose java for an application we made because "you can run it anywhere!"

and then I spent weeks, or maybe even months, getting it to work on both Windows and MacOS

@lizardsquid @mallaidh Usually most of the sins I see revolve around hardcoding things for one particular version of Java and assuming Java will never need a security update.

@queerhackerwitch @mallaidh the problem in this case was actually that installing java was too complicated and confusing for our userbase, so we had to embed java into the program.
