linux: y no women in our spaces ????? :( :( :(

also linux: our preferred softwares are bitchx, gimp and something with an abortion joke in the official documentation

linux will do so much better when they excommunicate stallman and their followers from their ranks

"but mavica you are conflating way too many different groups and distributions under a single 'linux' umbrella!" isn't that the point? when was the last time you heard of an 'archlinux' marketshare against an 'ubuntu' marketshare?

@mavica_again just think of android, which is linux and is probably the most popular OS among women. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@vekkq last i heard google didn't name either of those pieces of software but also i invite and arch-bros to come at your for conflating android and arch!!!

@mavica_again School: "we cannot teach this in our institution because its name runs afoul of our antidiscrimination policy"
Gnu Project: "how DARE you this tasteless Pulp Fiction (1994) reference is SACRED"

@mym no no see all it means is GNU (not general, not anymore!) image manipulation program!! it's inoffensive and you're triggered for no reason, i swear!!!

@mavica_again @mym hey quick question, what other meaning does the word gimp have? it solely means the art program in my dialect of english, and searching the word up simply returns a bunch of pages on the art program

@thetacola gnu (formerly general) image manipulation program was originally named for the pulp fiction character "the gimp" who is named after the gimp suit they wear which is a bdsm accoutrement named after a slur aimed at physically disabled people

you can corroborate any of this through your own research

@thetacola and in case you think there is no possible linkage between gnu image manipulation program and bdsm (which i am fine and in favour of, just not the slur) this is the splash screen for version 2.7.2

@mavica_again @thetacola oh... Oh now that would be a very awkward pop up while running Linux at work.

@Stinkie they defend this one by saying "oh it was just an unstable development release, not meant to be seen if you're on the stable channel" but like, isn't that the point of rolling releases vs "archaic" distros like Debian?

@mavica_again that very well could have been on my work's Linux systems back in like 2010, or whenever that came out, since they ran Red Hat at the time.

@thetacola @mavica_again it's a slur against someone who has trouble walking and also slang for someone wearing a bondage suit, which is how it ended up in Pulp Fiction

@mavica_again Also, lenna.jpg and “sudo make me a sandwich”

@acb but "it's just that computer science is a highly technical field that isn't fit for women... no no don't look at historical archives when most programmers were women before the profession even had a proper name, we don't need to study that"

@Mae @mavica_again I'd never heard of bitchx before this post. Looks like the last release was in 2014... It probably was popular once, but it's not now.

@mavica_again Obviously Stallman & co need to be removed. I don't think gimp is pushing women away more than others. What is your point? Women won't be involved in an ecosystem unless it's 100% family friendly? This sounds like you're pushing female fragility.
