food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

User: "My laptop is really hot all the time."
Me: *turns it over, finds the rubber strip has peeled off due to the heat, and notices some brown splotches blocking the intake grill*
Me: I think that's your problem.

@renbymon I mean... the fact that didn't cause a short circuit or something to begin with is surprising to me, since it looks like it was once at least somewhat liquid. o_o

re: food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@gc These laptops are surprisingly resilient; I've seen the aftermath of a lot of coffee spills and they generally keep chugging other than a faulty trackpad or keyboard

re: food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@renbymon I'm still deathly afraid of ever spilling coffee on mine. X3

re: food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@renbymon omfg. WHY!?!?

re: food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@garrwolfdog I can only assume that they put the laptop down on a piece of chocolate one day because they weren't paying attention.

@renbymon Aw gosh it looks like they sat that thing on top of a chocolate bar.

That is not a good way to melt chocolate, well, if you plan on using either afterwards.

@LightTheUnicorn Yeah I suspect they just weren't paying attention, which is the common way that we end up with "User damage" faults x)

@renbymon the lesser spotted PEBKAT

food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@kevin Oh I've not heard of that variant?

@renbymon Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Table

Though to be fair, the root cause is still PEBKAC

@kevin @renbymon Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chocolate.

@renbymon Looks annoying to clean up. That said OMG would so much rather deal with that than a tar and dust covered HW over a smoker.

@vvelox It's "out of scope" for us, and out of warranty (though this would be chargeable because it's clearly user damage) so it's going to a weee company to recycle.

food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@renbymon is... is that.. chocolate what the fuck o-o;;;

food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@Nine Yep, it's chocolate

food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@renbymon ...so this is someone extremely careless who eats chocolate in bed with their laptop as well and WELP, put laptop on chocolate and never realised until far far too late...

or toddlers/young kids who have access to laptop for some reason?

either way oooh goodness. ._.;; genuinely surprised the smell of burning chocolate didn't tip them off.

food, inside of a computer, people who don't look after stuff

@Nine I kinda feel that it was the latter; I've seen a lot of parents who have a sort of blindness to the mess their kids make and I suspect that this is what happened.
