realizing all of my stuff at home is going offline because there's a power outage while i'm away is making me wonder something
what if i cobble together a router UPS (server is already battery-powered laptop)
would a regular phone power bank outputting to a 5-to-9v boost converter work or am i being silly
(i do not want a bulky 110v ac ups)
@troubleMoney look at this they even have cables that already do all the work for me https://www.banggood.com/USB-DC-5V-to-DC-9V-Step-up-Module-Converter-Male-Connector-Plue-2_1x5_5mm-p-1052130.html?cur_warehouse=CN
@squirrel oh sweet, yeah, that'll do
@squirrel ooh, if you wanted to get really fancy with it and add a few bits of circuit you could add a solar panel in there!
solar and/or mains charges the power bank and then the power bank runs the routers!
SOLAR POWERED BUN-NET
@troubleMoney i'd do that if i could put it in a good place to get sunlight :(
but it's really just meant to be a router UPS
@squirrel ah yeah, the sun can be really inconvenient like that
@squirrel I tried something like this and it mostly worked, but the charge circuitry didn't like having brown outs, so sometimes it'd behave oddly during storms.
@ajroach42 i'm thinking about a very straightforward thing taking a 2-output power back, leaving it plugged into the wall, and plugging two of these into it, one for each router i have https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/USB-DC-5V-to-DC-9V-DC-5V-to-DC-12V-Step-up-Cable-Module-Converter/32832075077.html
@ajroach42 power bank*
@squirrel I don't see any obvious reason it wouldn't work
Assuming the powerbank lets you use it while you're charging it, otherwise you might need to add a bit more circuitry
