i mean, fuck renard, i made this cover well before i knew how much of a colossal shitnugget they were

can we just pretend this one is mine now computerfairi.es/media/Kquv0D_

if you wanna hear some of my original work with famitracker, this is a nice OST i made with it soundcloud.com/svetlana/sets/i

this is probably the best i've made the NES soundchip sound

muted FDS the second play through to isolate 2A03 sound only

partial cover of: youtube.com/watch?v=I4xdRuleJj

@squirrel Didn't Renard leave FA like ages ago and took down all their music too?

I never bothered following them anywhere else so I think I missed all the details on what kinda person they were, but I think I like your cover here more than the original by quite a margin. It feels more like it IS the original tbh.

@squirrel i need to do more of these sometimes. mine aren't really as good as yours though, need to figure out how to use famitracker

@Violet this is really good!!! i can't do the fast-tempo style with lots of note modulation, that's a really good skill everyone but me in the chiptune scene has

@squirrel ah!! i mostly just guess how to do everything and if it works it works

@Violet yeah that's all i've done for the past 10 years and i'm still not good

@squirrel here's a pokkén tournament cover i'm pretty proud of myself for doing youtube.com/watch?v=0o0qYK7KSl

@squirrel again, these would probably sound a lot better if i picked up famitracker and used a better soundfont though

@squirrel i can never really make any of my stuff sound genuine

@aeonofdiscord listening to it playing on real hardware was the high point of my life tbh

@squirrel (I haven't listened to that bc I'm at work still but...) I once nearly included a cover of one of their old songs as a bonus track on one of my albums... fortunately I didn't
Same deal, I didn't know

@squirrel How did you make the video? I have a few famitracker things I'd like to post somewhere for posterity but I don't know what to do with them

@squirrel I did not know OBS could do recording... but I guess that's kind of obvious that it should be able to isn't it

I will see about videoizing them!

@squirrel Hmm. Could you elaborate on the specific settings you used? When I try, I end up having the audio and video horribly desynchronized, which is not good for this sort of recording.

@Felthry uhh latest OBS, only changed highlighted settings and literally nothing else? you can use anything else other than these settings as long as the file is under 8MB for mastodon, though computerfairi.es/media/Z9InyhX computerfairi.es/media/PtxX9i7

@Felthry none of these settings affect synchronization so i don't think i can help you sorry

@squirrel well, there were acouple things that might have done it. I encoded as mp4 because I don't know anything about formats and that was the one I recognised. I didn't realize the 'streaming' settings affected the recording mode, so I had ignored those... maybe the defaults were stressing the cpu or something?

@Felthry no clue at all. mkv/mp4 shouldn't matter. you need to remux to mp4 either way. i record in mkv because it is a streaming container and so if OBS crashes i have a recoverable file, where i don't with mp4 (and this was useful on the latest episode of squirrel-chan's fuck-up hour)

@squirrel hmmm. I wonder if the desync is possibly VLC's playback instead of the actual encoding...? *digs into video things*

@squirrel well, it wasn't, firefox doesn't play it any better. Going to ask a friend of mine who I know works with video software I think

@squirrel yeah this isn't working. might have to just go with some audio-only option to host it.
