It's not because Mastodon/ActivityPub is an open network that there shouldn't be some consensus on what's minimum appropriate behaviour.
Open networks are no excuse for shitty/harmful/... behaviour.

@squirrel @kellerfuchs @troubleMoney I don't see it as a defeat at all! Prank calls and telemarketing was not the end of the phone, and Mastodon is way better equipped at dealing with bad actor!

I'm sorry, but getting in some rando's mentions' or DMs' to solicit them isn't “content [I] don't want to see”, it's actively abusive.
Consent has to be proactive, not retroactive.
