@Brennuvargur@fandom.ink @pink_ink at least in Europe the power grids are well stabilized against over-voltage. Most supplies have a simple protecting circuit against voltage spikes as well. If a lightning would strike a power line near your house, that could cause some unwanted restarts etc. In Germany those power lines are mostly through earth cables and well protected. So of you safe regularly or you have a device with a battery you are fine.

They help to dissipate electric field bubbles before they endanger persons in or around the house. As far as I know those bubbles can be as small as a dozen meter in diameter.
