@undyne I wonder who's good for commission, like, a sticker set that'd be good for a shimeji-type thing as well
some surprising sustainability
Also:
* Growing almonds for almond milk damages ecosystems and uses a *lot* of water. 80% of the world's almonds come from California, where severe droughts can be a problem
* Soy farming drives deforestation in South America. Tofu can have twice the carbon footprint of chicken
* Fish populations are dynamic. Sustainable fishing leaves land open for reforestation
* Bioplastics are not necessarily better than recyclable plastics like PET
* Industrial cooking is more efficient than home cooking. Tinned tomatoes, chick peas, etc can be a good option
* Cling film is plastic, and plastic is not good. But if you use it carefully, you can prevent food waste, which is worse. Beeswax wrapping is ideal
* Leather can last over a decade, and is biodegradable. Fake leather is made from short lived plastic
* Cotton production is energy intensive. A cotton bag needs to be used 149 times to be more carbon efficient than plastic. Get a good one. Use it often
Another photo of a pygmy nuthatch.
This one creepily hanging upside down. Do you even birb, nuthatch?
It's exactly two weeks until my birthday! If you are the sort of person who is inclined to buy me a gift, here is a list of things I wouldn't mind having: https://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/1UMBS6S4HV6Q3/
Mauna Kea, Decolonization, Hawaii
(Photo taken from Mauna Kea today as myself and the family went up to join our fellow Hawaiian kia'i)
Also, the international astronomical community & beyond are more and more on the side of the Native Hawaiian protectors of Mauna Kea each day. Currently seriously investigating the Canary Islands alternate site for TMT. https://www.forbes.com/sites/startswithabang/2019/08/09/astronomy-faces-a-field-defining-choice-in-the-next-steps-for-the-tmt/#598df10244ff
