I need to add some more variety to my music collection
anyone have recommendations?
(not overly concerned about genre, I have faves from bloody damn near everything)
@daisy_todd these have been noted and recorded - I'll be giving them each a look
@Chel Yay! ^^
@daisy_todd thank you, btw
@Chel D'aw it's no problem!
Alvvays
Japanese Breakfast
Snail Mail
Three relatively recent indie jangle/ dream pop artists. I can recommend specific songs as well
@Zelli excellent. my music to-do list grows more and more powerful 😈
It's the best kind of power you can wield 🎼🎵🎶
Also I'm taking this thread as permission to randomly dm you music I like from now on~

some music recs

@Chel Yay! I hope you wind up with another new fave or two. ^_^
For general listening, I find SOMA's PopTron quite decent, though sometimes a bit small a playlist, and CHIRP Radio, all from actual, real DJs, so the styles can be all over the place. (I'm particularly fond of Nicole Oppenheim's "Ear Candy", 9am-noon Central; they're in Chicago. DJ Megatron and Superfrye are also very good)
You can get an idea from their playlist:

- not just the same old!

@porsupah appreciate the link!
@Chel Spirit Phone by Lemon Demon is pure spooky JAMS and it has a huge anticapitalist message in its lyrics
Album cws: suicide, murder, surreal horror
@gigavinyl spooky jams?
I'm already sold tbh
@Chel Probably my least well-known current fave is Marian Call: https://mariancall.bandcamp.com/
I'd recommend her more recent albums, especially Standing Stones but also Sketchbook, Something Fierce, and Live in Europe. She also has a _lot_ of cute one-offs and covers.
@klara awesome! I'll be looking into this
@Chel yelle is an amazing pop/electronica artist. there's also now, now if you like indie pop (or lesbians lmao!), nothing, nowhere for sad rap, and the birthday massacre for 80's style electro rock i guess you could call it
@niji I stumbled upon Birthday Massacre not too long ago, and liked what I heard!
I'll give the others a look
@Chel Grizzly Bear tbh
This is my favorite band in the world. They do a lot of different styles of metal, but it all tends to be grotesque and dark. I won't take offense if you don't like them: they're definitely an acquired taste.
@Chel I've been listening to a lot of Celldweller and Scandroid stuff, (Scandroid is the same guy but all synthwave/cyberpunk themed stuff). Also Blue Stahli is pretty good. Abney Park is neat as well if you want steampunk pirate music.
