if you haven't seen it, "steamed hams but it's a ghost trick chapter" is the best execution of "meme but its a different thing" i have ever seen, and you do not need to have played ghost trick - you get enough from context

cis reactions to requests for pronouns

@polyphonic @monorail yes, that second paragraph exactly. right now, especially in right-wing/"conservative" groups (but also trickled down through public perception into a lot of the mainstream), "sharing pronouns" = "being trans" = "harass this target." people who are not trans and who make their pronouns visible are not only diffusing the potential for harassment, they're also showing their support to the trans people around them, and helping the trans folk to feel safer sharing their own pronouns.

I've been in spaces before where folks were asked to share their pronouns, and *invariably* there will be one cis male (who has probably never interrogated his own gender assumptions before) who reacts with ridicule, scorn, and "well it's obvious what *my* gender is." when that attitude is in the minority, it's amusing; when it's the majority, or *perceived* to be the majority, it's stifling and threatening for the folks who are trans or who don't fit into the gender binary for any reason.

I hope this helps. :)

...okay, to be fair, this really has more to do with the friends I've made in the past year than anything else, lol.

It was just kinda rough this year because I couldn't celebrate with people in meatspace for obvious reasons, but I have all these online friends who... I also couldn't celebrate with for different reasons. :p

Honestly, I need to figure out a different day to celebrate instead and just celebrate that. :p

me: "Hey, it's my birthd--"

People I know this year but never any year before: "um actually that's bad opsec, you shouldn't actually celebrate this thing that's important to you in case a website you signed up for thinks that nobody else could possibly know it ://"

me: "oh, o-okay. it kinda feels like 2020 just took something else of value away from me, but I guess that makes sense. =_="
