ALRIIIIGHT so
If you wish, I compiled the most recent source for the Windows x64 build of ioquake3 since the only available version is a really old x86 build for windows (and mac and linux too :/ but I don't know how to build stuff for mac or linux and i don't have a mac or linux to build it on either if I need to do that, if I can build them on this windows pc then please, let me know! :O I'll do it for you! I swear!) , and I'm gonna put up a DL link for it if people want
cc @outie and @noiob and @pupy cause auhhh, ya gon need dis :3
also I got a premade autoexec.cfg that ramps all the details up as much as possible and sets a 1920x1080 config and uses the gl2 renderer if you want, though it's copied from some other page mostly , though you also wanna get the hires texture pack and the graphics upgrade pack that are linked on the ioquake3 page too
@Nine I'm not super into the details, but you should be able to compile for linux by using Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and compiling it there using regular linux compilation procedures.
@Nine I'll install it in a heartbeat if you tell me it lets me alt-tab out of the game
@noiob ...as it turns out yes. yes it seems to. I'd forgotten that. The preevious version didn't seem to let it happen but I'm having no trouble alt-tabbing now
@Nine awesome that's the one thing that pisses me off about the official version
@Nine thank you so much it was really annoying to have to open task manager to get out of quake
@noiob No problem, glad it helped! I did notice the old 32bit version of ioquake3 wouldn't allow task switching at all, but I thought it was just a momentary bug since I only used it like, once last night before realising that it used a really old GL version and the newest update I would have to compile. Luckily i found the instructions to be super simple so it was just a case of... well... following them to build it. and boom. job done.
@Nine Or a virtual PC with Linux on. And if you have an intel CPU, there are ways of doing a virtual Mac :)
ah yeah seems I would have to have a linux machine to make linux builds from source, and likewise for mac. boo... ah well.
Either way, here's the most recent ioquake3 winx64 build for ya! https://drive.google.com/open?id=1t4g8pyHF5JPsImluaZCy8hqKLV5uVlGu
