@Nine the ads
and the gdpr notice
and the cookies thing
and more ads
and the cookies thing again because it keeps forgetting you said yes to that despite cookies being THE VERY THING YOU USE TO KEEP TRACK OF THAT SHIT
@troubleMoney IT'S ALL OF THEM AT ONCE HOLY FUCK
@troubleMoney the site LITERALLY WILL NOT LET ME USE IT unless I allow it to pop up the "please confirm your cookie choices! (or allow us to do whatever we like please do this one instead), I only know this because firefox it freezes on this loading bullshit, but on chrome it brings up the stupid cookies preferences shit, which stops me using the site until I do that. THEN it lets me use the site holy fuck
@plugs @troubleMoney it's aggravating and it makes me want to tear down the entire internet.
@plugs @troubleMoney same as heck. especially that last one.
The corps had like, nearly half a year to fuckin' prep for it, probably LONGER to be honest, but decided "nah we don't wanna we're gonna sit here and hold our breath until we get our way!" and did so and then threw a big baby pissy tantrum about it when it happened anyway and STILL won't fuckin' abide by it.
@plugs @troubleMoney For real yeah. Nothing is weirder than being searching for something and suddenly ads pop up...
and also buying something online and then all your "Hey you recently bought [A pack of GU10 LED lightbulbs] here is a list of OTHER lighting fixtures and other big packs of batteries because we now think you collect light fittings and bulbs for some reason! LOOK AT THESE DEALLLLSSS!!!"
It's not the algorithm's fault, really, it's just programmed that way. but still, fffuck...
@plugs @troubleMoney but also holy fucking shit the amount of bias, unconscious or otherwise, in tech is so blatant at this point it still makes me legit furious that there are people who will go "WHAT?? Naaah there's no politics in algorithms you're just being over sensitive lol!" and not because they're right wing chuds, but because they GENUINELY CANNOT FUCKING SEE IT. They're so bloody naive and unaware of their own biases that they just refuse to acknowledge it.
Honestly I wouldn’t mind ads that are things I’m interested in, itd made ads more bearable. It’s the creepy thing where they’re too specific and I don’t trust those corps with information about my online habits.
Recommending/showing stuff online based on interests isn’t inherently bad but corps aren’t trustworthy, they have human bigotry bias and get too creepy abt it.
Tbh we had govs just ignored the corp tantrums and said ‘tough shit you’re obeying this law, if you try to get around it we’ll tie up the loop hole’ that’d improve a lot of things. But those aren’t a thing so :Y
