Charlie Hebdo shooting, horrors of war
At the Newseum, and I just saw Tignous' name on the wall of journalists killed in action. His real name was Bernard Verlhac, and he was killed in the Charlie Hebdo shooting.
He was a parody artist who contributed to many charitable causes, including Clowns Without Borders and Cartoonists for Peace.
I only know all this because he featured in a life-changing peace of art for me - a tabletop experience known as The Grizzled. It allowed players to step into the shoes of soldiers in World War I, but contained no combat mechanics, and no fighting - there was nothing you could do to "contribute to the war". It was simply about staying alive until the end of the war and helping your friends from giving into despair. Players acquired traumas that could make them an actual danger to the rest of the group, but you cannot and would not leave them behind. The only way to win was to save everyone, and get home. Not in one piece - even victory was tragic - but home nonetheless. Fuck the war, just get them home.
I just hope for more people to remember him, and I recommend trying The Grizzled. It's something special.
its a cool game
