there's ALSO the "realism" modes, where... oof.
I played through Doom 2 with that on Realism Hurt Me Plenty and Tactical and HOOOLYYY SHIIIT.
okay so first... you take 700% more damage!! SEVEN HUNDRED PERCENT. YIKES.
HOWEVER, the enemies die REAL quick, like, your regular pistol can kill even demons real quick. a single regular shotgun blast will kill most things up close for example in one.
It's a HELL of an experience! uh.. pun, unintended... hm.
Combine this with the plethora of new difficulty levels as well! like, ther'es a "power fantasy" difficulty which straight up says "look, this is not really a challenge, just play it if you want to just relax and have a nice casual experience, OR if you're playing on a ridiculously difficult map/wad", because it puts as many enemies as it can on the map (Full UV spawns I think), BUT you take 75% less damage. very fun.
okay I gotta say the most recent version of Brutal Doom is... actually really good.
The Tactical gamemode is really interesting. You don't get to dual wield smgs or rifles because, and I quote "real operators don't try to look cool during a firefight" (...yet it will straight up let you dual wield pistols and PLASMA GUNS!? XD ), and also slows your base movement down, but gives you a sprint meter at more speed than regular running? AND guns have recoil which is nice.
