@XerTheSquirrel I very much appreciate content warnings. People used them on IRC but now in the age of media embedding everything's about showing stuff to everyone without their consent (and being unable to even ignore users in groups on some platforms) and it's really great to have a platform that cares about letting you control your own experience.

I'm really glad threads full of reaction pictures and gifs are rare here, since that's one part of Twitter I think is really annoying.

@maxine I always license my game code under GPL version 3. For assets I just use a noncommercial Creative Commons license.

Food

Okay let's see if I can do anything cool with lasagna noodles. This is a part where I'm probably gonna get to have some wish fulfillment from when I was a kid and I wanted to see what they were like outside of just lasagna.

@maxine They're definitely wonderful! I poured all of my best platformer ideas into Nova the Squirrel though and I'll have to either try a very different approach or wait until I have some enticing ideas to do another one.

I also want some variety after doing the same thing for so long, and solving the same problems in code over and over.

After making probably at least five platformers (and starting but not finishing attempts at more), maybe it's time for me to try a different genre for once.

I guess it's time to look through my list of weird game ideas that I didn't work on because I was too busy writing Nova the Squirrel.

@NinTheFolf Yeah that really sounds like the most sensible way to do it. You still have to go back for it but you don't lose it forever. Does that handle lava too?

Minecraft really needs some sort of middle ground between dying having almost no consequence and dying meaning you have to go run out to grab your stuff as fast as possible before it despawns forever. Though, if I ever host a server, KeepInventory is definitely gonna be on.

I think Dragon Quest Builders finds a nice middle ground just by making items seemingly not despawn and giving you at least some of your stuff but making you go back for the rest of it.

I think consistently the most expensive thing on my server resource-wise is always the wiki, but it's worth it for having something convenient to worldbuild and document things with.

@Rosemary @Dex Yeah I peeked around their site and it looks like they're doing much the same aside from not actually making the games they're from real. Still very surprising!

@Rosemary @Dex I have not but I think the implication here is that I ought to!

@wolfcoder Ha nope, I make sure I'm taking care of myself first of course

@maple either that or he'd probably get really tired of people repeating his most meme-y quotes and lots of "what could pawsibly go wrong"s

Since Nova's supposed to fit in with 90s mascot platformer characters I'm imagining her befriending the obscure forgotten ones that didn't really catch on

@hasya23 when I was a kid I always called them the "end guy" if I remember right

I feel like the biggest purpose in life is really to see how much of a positive impact you can make on the lives of people you care about and that's how I try to live

I still take a plush to bed each and every night and it just feels wrong otherwise
